1 foot is exactly 0.3048 metres. The international yard and pound agreement of 1959 defined it that way, so this multiplication is exact and any error in your answer came from rounding the input or the output, never from the factor.
If your measurement is in feet and inches, convert it to decimal feet first. 6 ft 3 in is 6.25 ft, because 3 inches is a quarter of a foot. Converting the feet and the inches separately and adding the results is where mistakes creep in.
The US survey foot is a different unit — very slightly longer, and used in older American land records. The difference is about two parts in a million, invisible in a room and material across a county. This page uses the international foot.
A useful check: 3 ft is a little under a metre, at 0.9144 m exactly. If your answer is not roughly a third of the number of feet, something has gone wrong.
