Before you rely on it
Grams and pounds both measure weight
Grams are metric and pounds are US/Imperial, but both measure the same thing: how heavy something is. That means the conversion is a fixed number — nothing else needs to be known about the item.
Kitchen scales often switch between the two. 500 g is roughly 1.1 lb, so half a kilo and a pound are close but not equal.
This direction never comes out exact. A pound is exactly 453.59237 grams, so dividing by it gives a decimal that does not end, and every answer here is rounded — to four places by default, adjustable with Decimals.
For pounds and ounces rather than decimal pounds, multiply the part after the point by 16. 500 g is about 1.1023 lb, and 0.1023 × 16 is about 1.6 oz, so 500 g is roughly 1 lb 1.6 oz.
