How to convert kilograms to grams
To change kilograms into grams, multiply by 1000.
grams = kilograms × 1000
Going the other way: kilograms = grams ÷ 1000
1 kilogram = 1000 grams. This factor is the exact definition of the unit, not a rounded estimate.
Worked example
You have 1.5 kilograms. Multiply by 1000. 1.5 × 1000 = 1500 g.

Before you rely on it
Kilo means a thousand
The prefix "kilo" means 1000, so 1 kilogram is exactly 1000 grams and converting is multiplying by 1000 — or moving the decimal point three places to the right. Nothing is ever rounded.
Much of the world writes decimals with a comma. 1,5 kg on a European package is one and a half kilograms, 1500 g — not fifteen hundred kilograms. The converter above reads a lone comma as a decimal comma.
"A kilo" in everyday speech means a kilogram. The kilogram is the SI base unit of mass, defined since 2019 through the Planck constant rather than a metal cylinder in Paris; the change made no difference to any everyday weight.
Kitchen scales in grams give finer control than kilograms: 0.25 kg is easier to weigh out as 250 g.
